Character Notes

Name: Alejo
Age: 142
Height: 6'0"
Languages: Spanish, Finnish, English, Swedish, French, passable Italian and Russian

Appearance:
Tall and athletic with defined muscles (thanks to intense training and restrictive diet). He has an angular face with a long nose, defined cheekbones and dark eyes. Generally he keeps his hair a little long and scruffy since he knows that, along with his cheeky smile, he can look deceptively young and charming. He had darker tanned skin when alive, but now it's only genetics allowing him some colour, though he still looks ill by his standards. There are still some notable scars from his living days, almost all of which are from fights, including several scars from vampire bites. Of course he has the trademark fangs (extended canines) which are non-retractable.

He's good about staying clean, but wears his clothing to death so that even if he looks well kept his clothes will be repaired ten times over. His clothing choice varies depending on the setting he's played in. Generally he sticks to simple (preferably fitted) clothing and does his best to look nice with what he has, though he has absolutely no qualms about destroying nice clothes either.

Alejo has a set of fitted armour of Greco-Roman style, complete with a plumed Corinthian helmet. Along with his weapons and shield it's one of the only things he was given upon leaving his adoptive home. Where ever possible he dons his armour when actively hunting or looking for a fight.

Voice: His voice is relatively average, smooth, and heavily influenced by his unspecific Spanish accent. If he relaxes or is distracted there are hints of a Finnish influence, but usually he's pretty firm in keeping the Spanish influence as part of his purposefully formed persona.

Skills:
Carpentry - Good at making functional furnishings, but lacks artistry.
Cooking - A mediocre cook who has a few specific dishes he does well.
Music - He knows how to play both classical and flamenco guitar.
Dancing - Adores dancing, especially salsa. He knows tango, waltz and does some Finnish folk dancing well (though would never admit it).
First aid - He can patch up wounds pretty well, even with improvised supplies.
Horse riding - Before his vampirism he was very proud of his riding skills. He worked well with horses and quite enjoyed training them to be able to ride into battle.
Sewing - He can sew well enough to repair his clothing.
Swimming - A strong swimmer, though now unable to swim in natural running water.
Theft and Burglary - Especially breaking into houses, sleight of hand and crimes of opportunity.
Wilderness survival and navigation - Specially in Nordic and European environments. Alejo knew he would be returning to Spain and so focused on survival in Europe's wilderness.

Fighting skills:
Martial arts - Education in this was a mixed bag, but Alejo falls back on Fiore and boxing techniques.
Melee weapons - Ancient and Medieval European weaponry (sword, shield, axe, etc). Primarily round shield and spatha or spear.
Ranged - Has basic firearm training but isn't particularly skilled. Alejo prefers crossbows but rarely uses them due to their lack of speed. He's a competent bowman, but rarely uses it outside of game hunting.
Trap making - Both for game hunting and vampire hunting.

Vampirism Details

In Alejo's universe there are a whole host of vampires of varying types. The species that Alejo is part of is certainly one of the weakest with the least benefits from his curse.

Appearance:
27 year old male of Spanish origin. Athletic, but slightly pale.
All living functions (healing, hair growth, etc) continue at an extremely slow rate. This is affected by the kind of blood being consumed, and slows to a halt if nothing is consumed for an extended period.

Bite:
Venomous - Symptoms similar to rapid onset flu that increases in severity until subject’s death or conversion to vampirism
Teeth - Thicker, longer canines (fangs) than standard human sets. They are unable to retract.

Blood:
Dead human/animal blood - Causes a form of food poisoning
Animal blood - Sustains (i.e. Keeps Hunger at bay) but does not nourish. Undesirable.
Human blood - Nourishes and allows for marginal increase in speed, strength, and senses (smell, hearing, sight). Uncontrolled feeding may lead to a frenzied state. Overfeeding leads to a blood-drunk state similar to an intoxicated human with extremely high aggression and lowered inhibitions.
Supernatural being - Varies depending on species

Sleep:
Optional. Alejo chooses sleep to rest his mind and maintain some semblance of normality.
Psychological effect of foregoing sleep - Subject feels less human and more monstrous. Mental instability rises with continued lack of sleep.

Sex:
Standard sexual relations contain numerous similarities to feeding practices which results in an exceptionally high rate of instances where intimacy triggers feeding behaviour. For this reason Alejo avoids sex and intimate acts that may trigger a feeding response.

Reactions:
Animals - Animals are repulsed by the vampire and generally try to stay away, though the reaction isn't as strong with rodents.
Beheading - Immobilises until the vampire is either destroyed or revived.
Crucifix - Repulsion (sight) and burns (touch). Produces the same repulsion as holy imagery but burns akin to an allergic reaction upon touching one.
Digital cameras - Distorted imagery. While vampires can be caught on camera, there is always some level of distortion.
Fire - Burns. The same result as a standard human interacting with fire.
Food/Drink - Severe intolerance. This typically causes vomiting shortly after consumption.
Garlic - Allergy. Upon consumption, garlic produces a severe (although not lethal) allergic reaction. Dislike of the smell and presence of garlic is likely an automatic psychological/physiological response learned from past experiences.
Holy imagery/objects - Repulsion. Produces a similar reaction to opposite magnets meeting. The vampire, while not outright hurt, will become more uncomfortable the longer and closer it is exposed to the imagery/object.
Holy water - Burns. Results in instantaneous burns as if the water is highly acidic.
Mirrors - No reflection.
Natural running water - Cannot walk through it. Immobilised if drowned in natural running water.
Silver - Burns. Results in instantaneous burns akin to a severe allergic reaction.
Stake through the heart - A wooden stake is fatal. Silver immobilises, and other materials will severely wound.
Starvation - Madness. Prolonged hunger will result in a vampire reverting to an animalistic state. Vampires have been shown to use their remaining human traits to manipulate and trick their prey in order to obtain food.
Sunlight - Burns. Results in instantaneous burns akin to being set on fire.
